I went to the library the other day to pick up The Diary of Anne Frank, The Revised Critical Edition. I also picked up the 50th Anniversary “Definitive Edition” of Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl.
I’ve never read these, but I grabbed these editions because they include critical essays (that I plan to read afterwards) and passages that were deleted or “cleaned up” when the original edition was released. Passages about her sexual desires, and less-than-great descriptions of her mother were all taken out. The new editions, which include the material, were challenged by a few schools in the United States, and banned (gasp!).
